Control of shoot apical meristem patterning through auxin biosynthesis
Auxin is a central regulator of plant development. It regulates multiple processes at different scales, from cell growth to tissue patterning and organogenesis. At the shoot apical meristem, the dynamic auxin distribution relies on local auxin biosynthesis and controls the rhythmicity and robustness of phyllotaxis.
By manipulating auxin biosynthesis spatially and temporally, we found that the plastochron‘s robustness is dependent on local and temporal sources of auxin. We discuss how auxin biosynthesis might control the timing of organ initiation.
