At the Centre of Plant Structural and Functional Genomics of the IEB AS CR, we study the structure and function of the genetic information of plants. We use the most modern methods of cytogenetics, molecular biology and genomics and are among the pioneers in the use of flow cytometry in plant biology. We are involved in important international projects focussing on reading the genetic information of important crop plants and isolating important genes. Our results not only expand current knowledge, but also contribute to the breeding of new varieties of crops with desired characteristics.

Strategy AV21 is a pioneering project of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, which was launched in 2015. As the motto "Top research in the public interest" suggests, the aim is to solve the problems and challenges of today's society. The Strategy AV21 comprises a total of fifteen research programmes. One of these is the "Food for the Future" programme, which is coordinated by the staff of the IEB. This programme responds to a significant socio-economic problem, namely the threat of global food shortages, their quality, impact on human health and production efficiency.
